Learning from your mistakes makes you a better person

Ms. Luella and Roger are the protagonists in the story, “Thank you Ma’am” by Langston Hughes. These two characters met when Roger tried to steal Ms. Luella’s bag. She could put him in the jail but she dragged him to her house and she was kind to Roger. Also, Roger got the lesson from her kindness. "Learning from your mistakes makes you a better person" was the main theme in the story. His first learning was when Roger could run away when the door was open. However, he didn’t run away and just stayed in her house. This is because, he was believed Ms. Luella that she is not going to put him to the jail. Also he knew that Ms. Luella was believed in him too and he saw her purse which she left behind her on the day-bed. However, he didn’t took it and run away. This is showing that he got changed because, at first place he tried to steal her bag, but now he just stayed still. The second learning was when he got 10 RM and said Thank you Ma’am because, he felt very thankful to her and he never saw Ms. Luella again. This is because, he knew that from now on he could handle himself and he knew how to behave him self. Therefore, he was very Thankful to Ms. Luella’s kindness not the money that she gave him.

Mr. Adam and the attacker are the protagonists in the article. The two characters met when the attacker asked him to get cigarette and punched him. Few days later he met the guy again but he didn't even apologized to him and he didn't even eye contact Adam. He was very frustrated. However, few days later he gave the attacker one more chance, but he got changed he was kind and eye contact to him and apologized to him. Therefore, It was also reveals the same theme as the story "Learning form you mistakes to makes you a better person". Therefore, one might think that he got changed because of his guiltiness. The attacker’s first learning was when he got changed after Adam gave him one more chance. This is because, he was very guilty when he didn’t even eye contact him. Therefore, when Adam gave him one more chance he determined to show his real face and apologized to Adam.

Both story had different setting for example, the characters age was different and their situations. However, the story also have some similar parts which is both character Roger and the attacker learn from their mistakes to become a better person. After I read these stories I felt that human behavior is very important and even though we made a mistakes we can learn and get experience so that never do the bad things again.

One's True Identity is Inherently Evil

The theme "one's true identity is inherently evil" is explored in "Lame to the Slaughter".   Every person has evil characteristics in them, but most times the evil traits are not revealed. This is because if we do evil things, we will be caught and punished by law. However, in "Lamb to the Slaughter" Mary and her husband revealed their evil characteristics to each other. For example, Her husband, was very mean to Mary. Although one might think that Mary's husband was good to Mary in the beginning of their marriage. However, at last he was very cruel to Mary. This is because,  Mary was loving her husband and she tried her best to make her husband comfortable, but her husband felt annoyed and answered only with mean words.. He even said it cruelly, "There needn't really be any fuss" and he said he will leave her. Then, Mary killed her husband and covered up her crime to avoid going to jail. This is also showing evil traits because, it is really hard to kill the person who you really love. Even though Mary's husband told Mary bad things to her she found excuses to forgive him. It was a suprising story because, not many books tell much about the evil characteristic. However, this is one book that shows that one's true identity is inherently evil.

In a news article that appeared in "Star" yesterday (August 17, 2010) "I will never forgive him, says acid attack victim" there was a man about 32 years old wanted 30RM from his wife. However, his wife refused to give him 30RM because he always asked for money from her and they argued about it. Later the man got a full bottle of acid and he splashed it on his wife and even his daughter. The daughter was seriously burned on her face. Like the story "Lamb to the slaughter" that evil in Mary couldn't be controled, so she killed her husband. Also in the acid attakck, the man couldn't control his evil when he was refused money by his wife, and injured both his wife and daughter, even though he loves them. It seems his wife was also mean or evil as she didn't give him small amount money when he asked.

People do evil things because of circumstances Mary killed her husband because her husband said he was living her and he told her in cold way. The man in the article did evil act because he couldn't get the 30RM from his wife. Both actions show "ones true identity is inherently evil".
